Let The Electorate Choose The New Labour Party is divided between Blairite’s and Brownites. They control the New Labour thinking, the New Labour way of life, the New Labour future. And unfortunately, they control who becomes the next Prime Minister of this country. In the early nineties the Tories dumped Thatcher for the gaff-prone government of John Major. It hobbled its way through one General Election and eventually found time had run out for it under a mountain of sleaze. The Electorate had had enough and they’d had the Tories up to their necks.  Full story...
Blair Must Go Now! The wagons are now circling around Tony Blair’s premiership like a deadly Apache attack. No more can he bluff his way through the questions about his political demise. It’s time to bow out.Blair has been the labour leader since 1994. In those days he was the bright-eyed view the electorate saw as the future. A future that would see the end of a Britain tarnished and selfishly constructed through the Thatcher and Major years. Years where me, myself and I became the watch-words of a generation who couldn’t care less about anybody else. The ‘I’m all right Jack’ way of living had become the near norm.Into this, Blair rode on his trusty stallion proclaiming a new future where we all counted and that things could only get better.  Full story...

English Assembly The Tories, using the task force set up by David Cameron, and headed by that ex-cabinet heavy weight, Kenneth Clarke, are to sponsor the idea that Scottish MP’s are to be restricted in the voting at Westminster. This all comes about because of, what has become to be called, the West Lothian question. Its premise is that Scottish MP’s have the ability to influence the laws here in England, while English MP’s have no like-for-like voting rights in Scotland.  Full story...

Juno The film tells the story of Juno, a sixteen years old girl who finds herself pregnant after her first sexual encounter with her friend, Paulie. And so the story unfolds.Juno is an intelligent and funny girl and the first thing she realises is she doesn’t want the baby. She isn’t old enough, isn’t mature enough and has more things to do. Her initial thoughts are towards a termination, but this soon changes to adoption. Paulie is fine with this and for the most part allows Juno to do as she pleases without recourse to his feelings throughout, only blurting his feelings out once (I think).Using a cheap advertising magazine, Juno finds what appears to be the perfect couple in Vanessa and Mark. On the surface, they are the ideal parents who just can’t have a child of their own.  And so the slow journey to the birth begins.Vanessa and Mark offer to pay all medical bills and Juno refuses, in her idealistic way, payment and access afterwards. A closed adoption is what she wants.Mark immediately hits it off with Juno. They both like music and horror films. The difference between Vanessa and Mark is simple: he has interests’ and Vanessa just wants children.Juno’s family are supportive and are in this with her. They’ll stand by her decisions whatever they are. Her father even accompanies her to her first meeting with Vanessa and Mark. The excellent script and first rate actress, Ellen Page, make this a must watch film. There is a warmth attached to the youth in the film that captures their innocence, which in turn makes you realise there’s lots to like about teenagers, despite the doom and gloom scenario’s regurgitated nightly on our tv news.   Full story...
Breaking and Entering Breaking and Entering is a film about Will (Jude Law), co-owner of an architects firm with Sandy (Martin Freeman). They have opened up new offices in the King’s Cross area of London and it keeps getting broken into. Primarily the thieves are taking computers and assorted equipment for re-sale.Will stakes out the office with Freeman. There he is befriended by a prostitute who works the street, and on one night he almost catches the thief, a young Bosnian refugee, Miro. While he is obsessed by the break-ins his family life is struggling to cope under the weight of his step-daughters obsessive disorder, for the life of me I can’t remember what it was but it takes a heavy toll on Will’s marriage.  Full story...

Casino Royale Daniel Craig is introduced as the latest incarnation of James Bond in Casino Royale, the 21st official outing for Ian Fleming’s super spy. And a good introduction it is too.Needing to breathe new life in to the franchise, the Bond ‘family’ have gone for the re-start option. Having only just acquired the rights to Casino Royale, the only story they didn’t have the rights to, they have introduced a blistering spectacle of a film.Stripped of a lot of the humour that Bond is known for, and devoid of most of the gadgets that normally herald Bond’s escape the film shows Bond for what he is; a cold blooded killer. He lives in a dangerous world and there’s no time for sentimentality, at least where the enemy is concerned.  Full story...

Ginger Mourinho? More Like Ginger Nut! Bolton are destined for the Championship, barring a miracle. Our club has been transformed from a Top 8 side to a team on the point of relegation in less than a season. It's mis-management beyond belief! Gartside and the board, in replacing Big Sam with Sammy Lee, put the clubs fortunes in the hands of a novice who obviously wasn't up for the job. Then to compound the problem they replaced him with a manager who has failure written all over his face. Ginger Mourinho? More like Ginger Nut!Megson has shown over the last weeks he can't lift the players. Relegation is chalked all over their faces. Some of the players who've been here for the good times look shell-shocked when they walk off the pitch.Megson has proved he isn't upto the job. Against the ten men of Wigan and inexplicably Arsenal when two up, he didn't come up with the goods. He cannot raise the players game. The Buck stops with him! Get him out now! A decision like this cannot do any more damage to the club than what is happening now. A new face. A new approach. It may do the job.  Full story...
Premier League Sell-Out The Premier League is now proposing to stretch itself into the globes far flung footballing mad corners of the world. Yes, they’re proposing to play league games in such distant places as Hong Kong or Riyadh. How’s that feel, season ticket holders? Not content with dismantling the very fabric of England’s footballing heritage through measures like mass alternative kick-off times, and out-pricing the low-income family, the Premier League now want to take the game out of the country completely! There isn’t much chance of a footballing fan here being able to hop on a plane to Hong Kong for a Monday night game is there? Meaning, the true fan, who has seen his team through thick and thin along the years, will be reduced to paying premium tv charges to watch his favourite team.  Full story...

A Dynastic Approach If I may be so bold, as it were, the clamour for a foreign coach to head the England football team is pasta the point of no return! Now Mourinho has ruled himself out, the clamour and attention of the press is swinging firmly in the favour of Fabio Capello.  And swayed by this mercenary lot (that’s the press) it seems, is the English public. Lead by the carrot of success the public are blindly going wherever the tabloids want to lead them; ultimately, only time will tell, to another failed qualifying campaign. What the England team needs after the debacle that was the McClaren era is stability and calm, not the circus that is the recruitment process the FA has a knack of creating.  Full story...
